(Doha, Qatar)—For the first time ever on the Qatar campus, six Aggies were awarded their Aggie rings. Marty Holmes, assistant executive director of the Association of Former Students, and Julie Scamardo, Aggie ring program coordinator, presented the rings during the Academic Convocation on Aug. 29 to Class of 2007 members Ali Al-Medaihki, Hessa Al-Missned, Aisha Al-Wadaani, Nour El Cheikh Ali, Megha Mohan and Yousef Murad.
The convocation has been held at the beginning of each academic year since the university’s establishment in 2003.
In his state-of-the-campus address, Charles Bowman, interim dean and CEO, said, "Working in partnership with the Qatar Foundation, our dreams and goals for Texas A&M at Qatar are being realized. We are helping to assure that Her Highness' vision for Education City is coming to life.”
Mohammad Saleh Al-Sada, managing director of RasGas Co., said in the convocation address that, "In the past, we had to travel to overseas institutions to complete our engineering education. Today we have that world-class engineering education brought here to our doorstep. As aspiring professional engineers, your role in contributing to the society begins right here, at Texas A&M University at Qatar.”
"I firmly believe that your education here in Texas A&M University at Qatar will professionally prepare you with a broad world view, a sound engineering base and good preparation for business. Such a competitive advantage will be long lived and sustainable," he said.
Representing the student body, Yousef Murad, Class of 2007, said "Today
I received my Aggie ring along with five of my colleagues. I am happy,
proud and really honored by being one of the first students to receive
their ring in TAMUQ.”
